AI Research Engineer (ASR/TTS/MT)

AI4Bharat / EkStep Foundation

📍 Bangalore, Koramangala, India🏢 hibrido🎯 pleno
Hiring AI research engineers to work under Prof. Mitesh Khapra at AI4Bharat, IIT Madras. If you've fine-tuned ASR, TTS or MT models and wanted to do it on problems that actually reach people, this is that role. AI4Bharat has been building open-source Voice & Language models since 2020. We're now going deeper: fine-tuning for new dialects and low-resource language pairs, fixing what breaks in the field (not what breaks in a benchmark), and building evaluation pipelines that track real regressions release over release. What you'll actually do: - Fine-tune ASR/TTS/MT models for dialects most labs ignore - Work directly with deployment teams on production failures reported from real usage — agriculture, education, livelihood platforms at population scale - Own eval pipelines (WER/CER, MOS, BLEU/ChrF/COMET), not just report numbers The honest part: This doesn't pay market rate. It's a one-year, full-time consultant role (extendable) based out of EkStep Foundation's Bangalore office, Koramangala - hybrid. What it does offer: mentorship under Prof Mitesh Khapra, open-source work that ships to real government and civil society deployments, and a shot at building things at a scale most roles never touch. If that trade makes sense to you, send your resume to voice@ekstep.org, mention the model/language pair you've worked on and a GitHub link if you have one.
